The School for Lay Ministry extended learning opportunities

September 18, 2019

The School for Lay Ministry (SLM) Commission is offering extended learning classes at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA beginning in October. These classes are open to anyone!

Class Descriptions

  • The Book of Mark with Rev. Lanette Plambeck, Iowa Annual Conference Director of Clergy & Leadership Excellence on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019
    • Book needed: Practicing Resurrection by Janet Wolf
    • This study presents this well-known Gospel through voices and experiences that are often relegated to the margins. Where we stand, what we see, who we listen to, whose stories and voices we value or dismiss, shape the way we understand the world and the Bible. This study incorporates the stories of those on the margins to uncover how the gospel is alive and well today—how God is, and always has been, calling us to live out the Word in a radical way.
  • What About Our Money: A Faith Response with Connie Dicks on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019
    • Book needed: What About Our Money by Susan K. Taylor
    • Most of us would rather talk about politics or death or pretty much anything else before we talk about money. This study explores how we understand money within the context of our faith. This discussion and our own awareness of how we relate to money can actually help free us from many of the financial dilemmas we face.
  • Lay Servant: Prayer with Colleen Petaros, SLM Graduate/ Conference Director of Lay Servant Ministries and Steve Kahler, SLM Graduate/Certified Lay Speaker on Saturday and Sunday, March 14 – 15, 2020
