In the year 1634, a man returning to Oberammergau for Christmas took ill with the bubonic plague. The man died, and the plague spread rapidly throughout the city. The citizens avowed that if God spared them from the ravages of the plague, they would perform a passion play every ten years. After the vow was made, not another inhabitant of Oberammergau died and all the citizens suffering from the plague recovered.
Now performed in years ending in zero, the Passion Play has been faithfully performed every decade for 380 years. Over 2,000 actors, instrumentalists, and technicians, all residents of the village, are involved. We invite you to join us in Oberammergau in 2020 for the Passion Play, followed by an exciting tour of Italy. Our tour host, Educational Opportunities, is the largest distributor of Passion Play tickets.
We’ve enhanced this experience by including the outstanding “Best of Italy” tour in our itinerary. We’ll visit cities like Venice, Florence, Assisi, and Rome during one of the most beautiful times of the year. We will also walk in the catacombs and have tours of both ancient and Christian Rome.
Throughout our trip, we will be led by outstanding guides. Included in the cost is international air fare, deluxe air‐conditioned motor coaches, your Passion Play ticket, all admission fees, plus breakfast and dinner. By reserving early, we are guaranteed Passion Play tickets and tour savings. Gary and I don’t want to wait another decade and hope that you will join us in this very special experience and tour.
